Duo of Sasing Students Speakers of The Fourth English Language Teaching and Technology (ELT-Tech 4) Conference at UPI

Discussions about language education are endless because there are always technological innovations in their implementation. The duo of English Literature students as UM delegates, Afifah Ainiyah and Novy Auliya Istighfary, participated in the implementation of The Fourth English Language Teaching and Technology (ELT-Tech 4) Conference organized by the UPI English Education Study Program in collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Scholars of English Education (AISEE) and the Indonesian English Teacher Association (IETA) took place in the Auditorium B FPBS UPI building on November 15-16 2019. The theme was "Technology Cultivation and Learner Engagement in English Language Teaching", followed by universities throughout Indonesia who were quite enthusiastic in participating in these activities.

The opening of the ELT-TECH event was held at the Auditorium B FPBS UPI. On that day there was one keynote speaker and two plenary speakers who fill the material as additional good insight for presenters nor participants. The first speaker was Prof. Brent Jones, Ph.D. which discusses methods in maximizing student involvement in the process of teaching and learning activities. Pupung Purnawarman, MSEd., Ph.D. as plenary speaker the first discusses technology integration. In addition, there are Prof. Roger Palmer who discusses the use of technology in learning.

At the conference, Afifah Ainiyah and Novy Auliya Istighfary, a class of 2017 English literature students presenters presented the results of his study with the title CALL and MALL Use in Listening Class Activities to Enhance The Students 'Listening Skills: Learners' Perspective. The study involved UM English students and students who had taken courses Advance Listening. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of CALL and MALL can improve student achievement.

The second day continued with parallel presentation sessions from the participants presenters and continued with workshops from each speaker. The workshop activities are made as the atmosphere of learning activities in class and also apply the material that has been delivered at the opening.

Last Wednesday, November 13 2019, one of the Malang State University (UM) students, Salma Al Mardhiyyah, participated in the competition International Essay Contest for SEA-Teacher Alumni 2019 organized by the Lampung State University. A tight competition followed by program alumni SEA-Teacher Project previously selected to the top ten, after which the ten finalists presented their essays at Unila. As for the program SEA-Teacher Project, which stands for Southeast Asian Student Teacher Exchange is an exchange program for prospective teachers throughout Southeast Asia, organized by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) every year. There are 107 universities from Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia who also sent delegations to practice teaching within one month.

 

Competition International Essay Contest for SEA-Teacher Alumni 2019 which was held by Unila was an activity follow-up The annual program is also under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Culture and SEAMEO, as well as the local government, where alumni from all generations write scientific essays on themes related to the importance of literature for education and a better future for ASEAN. The ten international essay finalists came from various universities from Indonesia and the Philippines: Sriwijaya University, Lambung Mangkurat University, Makassar State University, Tidar University, Lampung State University, Pangasinan State University, Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology and State University of Malang. On Wednesday, November 13, 2019, Salma gave her essay presentation entitled Integrating Methods and Media in Teaching through Diversity. Salma did not expect when his name was called Champion 2 International Essay Contest. Her desire to share her experience during a month of teaching in Chiang Rai, North Thailand in August was the reason for this seventh semester student who really loves education to join. Salma admits that the experience of dealing with students with cultural, traditional, religious, and racial backgrounds is something she will not forget. The differences that exist are not an insurmountable obstacle, in fact, according to Salma, can be a source of learning for students and teachers. Salma has to face the existing challenges, namely language differences, in order to deliver learning materials to her students at Chiang Rai Municipality School 2. During her full month of teaching, Salma was given 12 classes consisting of 230 elementary and kindergarten students. Initially, all SEA Teacher Project participants were required to use English as a bridge to students in the destination country, however, in fact, most students in Thailand do not understand English, both in written and spoken form.

 

Through her 10-minute presentation, Salma explained the importance of sorting out the right teaching methods and media, tailored to the abilities, characteristics, and interests of students. Salma made use of hand puppets and flashcards which he made himself. The activeness of these young students is also a factor for Salma in choosing teaching methods Total Physical Response (TPR), namely learning by using physical activities such as dancing. In fact, the students became very enthusiastic in answering questions on flashcards until they run to the front of the class for the teacher to see them. Salma added that bringing the world to become the subject of children's exploration in learning is equally important, to add insight into the countries of the world and increase tolerance among people. In order to produce students who are superior and have noble character, and carry out the tri dharma of higher education, it is necessary to hold spiritual development activities. One of the activities to develop students' potential is the National Al-Qur'an Seminar. Through the activities of the National Al-Qur'an Seminar, students are expected to increase their devotion to God Almighty and increase their understanding and appreciation of the contents of the Qur'an.

The Al-Qur'an Seminar (19/10/2019) is intended as an initial step and early preparation to develop the self-potential of UM students in the field of the Qur'an. The Al-Qur'an National Seminar is a means of preparing students for the 2019 Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) XV State University of Malang (UM).

The series of Al-Qur'an Seminar 2019 events will be carried out with cooperation between various parties, both internal and external. We hope that this proposal can provide an overview of these activities and hopefully this activity can be carried out well. Matters that have not been included in this proposal will be reviewed. The Excitement of 2019 New Student Character Development Implementation at Graca UM

The first day (12/11/2019) character development for new students of the Faculty of Letters class of 2019 was orderly and festive. Located at Graha Cakrawala State University of Malang and followed by 1,037 participants from five departments, this activity carries the theme The Role of Language and Art in Forming National Character. Opened by the Dean of the FS who was represented by the Deputy Dean III and supported by 64 committee representatives from the seven student organizations in the FS, it went smoothly, wisely, and orderly.

The speaker on this first day was Dr. Mu'arifin, M.Pd (Deputy Rector III UM), Imam Sutopo, SH (Director of the Center for Legal Advocacy and Human Rights (PAHAM) Malang), Hendra (Representative of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) RI), and Nursani Arta ( Malang Corruption Watch (MCW) Representative, Malang City).

Arabic Literature Student Participation in ICIED Nov 2019

International Conference on Islamic Education (ICIED) the fourth was held again. The forum initiated by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (FITK UIN Malang) it carries the theme of a challenge Islamic education in the digital age. The international conference was held for two days, namely on Wednesday and Thursday November 6-7 2019 at the Halfway House, Postgraduate UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.

The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor for Cooperation and Development of the UIN Malang Institute, Dr. H. Uril Bahruddin, Dean of FITK UIN Malang, Dr. Agus Maimun and keynote speaker other. They are Dr. Hj. Sulalah, M.Ag (UIN Malang), Dr. H. Wahidmurni, M.Pd (UIN Malang), Prof. Masdar Hilmy, Ph.D (UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya), Andrea Rene Mason, MA (University of Idaho, United States), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Nazri Latiff Azmi (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia), and Mohammad Sahar Mat Din, MBA (Malaysian Islamic Trade Council).

A total of 250 selected presenters presented their works which were divided into six panels. They each offered their ideas about Islamic education in the digital era, so that millennials can survive and are firmly betting on the goodness of Islamic education in Indonesia. Abdul Wahhab, a student of the Department of Arabic Literature, State University of Malang, participated as one of the speakers and presented his paper at this conference. Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at the Ex Senate Room of UM, A3 Building, 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Letters, precisely at 13.00 WIB, 36 FS students from various majors were inaugurated as the UM and FS Student General Election Commission for the 2019/2020 service period. Inaugurated by the Dean of the FS, represented by the Deputy Dean III for Student Affairs, the FS took place simply. Invitations that came included the Student Affairs Subdivision of the FS, the Head of the Department, and the Secretary of the Department.
