Tepat tujuh puluh delapan tahun yang lalu kemerdekaan Indonesia diproklamirkan oleh bapak proklamator Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno. Peringatan serta perayaan kerap kali diselenggarakan oleh berbagai kalangan masyarakat di seluruh penjuru Indonesia sebagai simbol dari penghargaan dan lambang mengenang perjuangan para pahlawan. Tak urung, salah satunya civitas akademika Universitas Negeri Malang. Di kota yang dingin itu, mulai dari dosen, tenaga pendidik, hingga mahasiswa program pascasarjana dan mahasiswa program sarjana, bangun bersama matahari yang belum sepenuhnya terlihat untuk turut serta dalam upacara peringatan hari kemerdekaan Indonesia hari itu.
Dimulai pukul tujuh di lapangan cakrawala Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), upacara peringatan kemerdekaan Indonesia kali ini dimeriahkan bersama launching dies natalis dan pembukaan masa Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PKKMB). Upacara diwarnai dengan berbagai macam pakaian adat yang dikenakan oleh dosen dan tenaga pendidik, “Nilai luhur harus kita jadikan prinsip pengembangan sumber daya di UM, memakai pakaian adat menunjukkan bahwa Indonesia beragam, harus dibanggakan dan dijaga kelestariannya. UM adalah cermin representasi kebhinekaan”, ujar Hariyono ketika menyampaikan sambutan selaku rektor.
Launching dies natalis ditandai dengan pelepasan enam puluh sembilan burung sebagai simbol atas peringatan perjalanan Universitas Negeri Malang yang telah mencapai usia enam puluh sembilan sejak didirikan. Sementara pembukaan PKKMB ditandai dengan penyematan tanda mahasiswa baru. Dari setiap fakultas, satu perwakilan mahasiswa baru menyerahkan bibit tanaman baru sebagai implementasi dari tujuan rektor memberdayakan green campus. “Menyenangkan, seru. Saya mengenal banyak teman baru di sini, selain itu saya berharap bisa berkontribusi dengan baik kedepannya”, ujar Salma, mahasiswa baru fakultas sastra ketika ditanya mengenai berjalannya upacara dan kegiatan PKKMB.
Upacara peringatan kemerdekaan ini juga dirayakan dengan pertunjukan Pesona Tari Nusantara yang ditampilkan oleh 150 mahasiswa Pendidikan Seni Tari dan Musik (PSTM) yang dengan indahnya menggabungkan musik dan tarian tradisional kontemporer. “Latihannya cuma dua hari, diisi oleh mahasiswa angkatan 2021, 2022, dan 2023”, ujar Masayu ketika ditanyai mengenai persiapan pertunjukan tersebut. Selain pertunjukan tarian yang indah, upacara berjalan berkat para petugas, salah satunya adalah petugas marching band. “Upacara tahun ini lebih kondusif dari tahun lalu. Persiapan hanya dilakukan 4 hari, namun tidak ada kendala yang berarti sebab upacara ini telah dilakukan dari tahun ke tahun”, ujar Elsya. Peringatan serta perayaan hari itu ditutup oleh pertunjukan flash mob dan paper mob dari mahasiswa baru angkatan 2023 yang luar biasa.
