In an era where education is constantly evolving, the University of Malang is proud to announce a pioneering research initiative that aims to explore the effect of the flipped classroom model on EFL students’ writing ability and their perceptions of learning autonomy. This innovative approach to teaching and learning is set to transform the way English is taught, making it more engaging, effective, and student-centered.

This research team is led by Prof. Drs. Bambang Yudi Cahyono, M.Pd, M.A., Ph.D., two reseachers namely Fransisca Maria Ivone, S.Pd., M.A., Ph.D and Dr. Utari Praba Astuti, M.A., a student from our university namely Titik Lina Widyaningsih, and an assistant Nadia Galis Cahya Anugrah. We are honored to collaborate with Jitpanat Suwanthep, Ph.D., a renowned foreign researcher from Suranaree University of Technology, in this research. His expertise and insights will significantly contribute to the success of this project, fostering a spirit of international cooperation and academic excellence.

The flipped classroom model is a revolutionary teaching approach that reverses traditional learning. Instead of lecturing in class and assigning homework, teachers assign instructional content for students to engage with outside of class, freeing up classroom time for interactive exercises and collaborative projects. This approach not only enhances students’ writing ability but also fosters a sense of autonomy and responsibility in their learning.

The objectives of this research are multifaceted, including to investigate the effect of the flipped classroom model on EFL students’ writing ability; to explore students’ perceptions of learning autonomy when engaged in a flipped classroom environment; and to provide actionable insights and strategies for educators looking to implement this teaching approach.

The expected results of this research are transformative. The insights gained from this study will not only enhance our understanding of the flipped classroom model but also provide a blueprint for educators looking to make their teaching more engaging and student-centered. The results will be shared through various channels, including conferences, workshops, and publications.

This research initiative aligns perfectly with the global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of “Quality Education.” By exploring innovative teaching approaches like the flipped classroom model, we are taking significant steps towards ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

Malang, Indonesia – On July 13, 2023, the Bachelor’s Program in Library Science (S1 Ilmu Perpustakaan) hosted a Workshop and Focused Group Discussion on Archive Management for the S1 Ilmu Perpustakaan 2023 students. The event featured experts and practitioners in the field, offering a unique opportunity for students to delve into the principles of archiving and advance their research skills. During this engaging session, students had the privilege of learning from Mr. Niko Grataridarga, a distinguished guest from the University of Indonesia, as they explored various aspects of archive management, including its history, types, and effective management strategies.

A Journey into Archive Management

Archive management is a critical discipline that plays a pivotal role in preserving and organizing records of historical, cultural, and administrative significance. It ensures that valuable documents and information are systematically stored, maintained, and made accessible for future generations. To introduce students to the intricacies of this field, the Workshop and Focused Group Discussion provided a comprehensive overview of archive management principles and practices.

A Distinguished Guest Speaker

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Mr. Niko Grataridarga, an esteemed expert and practitioner in the field of archive management. Mr. Grataridarga, hailing from the prestigious University of Indonesia, brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the discussion. His insights and guidance provided invaluable insights into the world of archives, enriching the students’ understanding of this multifaceted domain.

Exploring Archive Management

Throughout the Workshop and Focused Group Discussion, students had the opportunity to explore various facets of archive management:

Historical Perspective: The session commenced with an exploration of the historical significance of archives. Students gained insight into how records and documents have been preserved over centuries, contributing to our understanding of the past.

Types of Archives: The discussion expanded to cover the diverse types of archives, from government and institutional archives to personal and community archives. Each type presents unique challenges and opportunities for archivists.

Effective Management Strategies: Mr. Grataridarga shared practical strategies for effective archive management. This included insights into cataloging, digitization, preservation, and access policies, all essential components of modern archive management.

Research Enhancement: Beyond the logistics of archive management, the Workshop emphasized the role of archives in enhancing research. Students were encouraged to explore how well-maintained archives can serve as valuable sources for academic and historical research.

Kuatkan Bidang Peminatan, Prodi Ilmu Perpustakaan UM Gelar Workshop Kearsipan dengan Praktisi Universitas Indonesia

Manajemen rekod atau kearsipan merupakan salah satu peminatan atau bidang konsentrasi yang ada di program studi S1 Ilmu Perpustakaan, bersama dengan literasi sekolah dan manajemen informasi. Masifnya perkembangan dunia kearsipan dan terbatasnya literatur serta ahli yang membahas tentangnya mendorong program studi S1 Ilmu Perpustakaan Universitas Negeri Malang mengadakan loka karya dengan mengundang ahli sekaligus praktisi di bidang tersebut.

Loka karya ini bertajuk Workshop dan Focused Group Discussion Kearsipan S1 Ilmu Perpustakaan 2023 dengan fokus pada dasar-dasar kearsipan serta penguatan penelitian mahasiswa. Kegiatan ini diselenggarakan pada hari Kamis, 13 Juli 2023 dan bertempat di Aula AVA, Gedung D14 Fakultas Sastra Universitas Negeri Malang.

      

Kegiatan dibuka dengan menyanyikan lagu kebangsaan Indonesia Raya yang dilanjutkan dengan pemberian cinderamata dan sambutan dari Dekan Fakultas Sastra, Dr. Moch. Syahri, S.Sos, M.Si., serta Koordinator Progam Studi Ilmu Perpustakaan, Moh. Safii , S.Kom, M.Hum. Dalam sambutannya, keduanya mengucapkan terima kasih kepada para mahasiswa yang telah menyempatkan waktunya dan berharap pertemuan ini dapat memberikan bekal mengenai arsip yang diperoleh langsung dari pengalaman ahlinya dan bisa dijadikan referensi untuk magang maupun penelitian.

Acara yang diikuti mahasiswa dari angkatan 2019,2020, dan 2021 ini pun dilanjutkan dengan acara utama berupa paparan materi oleh Bapak Niko Grataridarga, S.Hum., M.Hum., yang merupakan dosen progam studi Manajemen Rekod dan Arsip di Vokasi Universitas Indonesia. Sesi ini dipandu oleh Ibu Amalia Nurma Dewi, M.Hum.

Dalam paparannya, Bapak Niko yang juga aktif di Ikatan Arsiparis Indonesia menyampaikan banyak materi seputar kearsipan, antara lain pengertian, nilai guna, sejarah, penilaian, jenis, karakteristik, model, dan pengelolaan arsip. Tak hanya berupa paparan, acara yang diikuti sekitar 35 orang ini juga diimbangi dengan sesi sharing maupun tanya jawab.

Para peserta pun sangat antusias dalam menggali informasi kepada pemateri yang juga menjabat sebagai Kepala Pusat Data dan Informasi di Vokasi UI tersebut. Beberapa topik dibahas secara mendalam, seperti contoh kasus, macam-macam istilah kearsipan, ilmu-ilmu yang linier, serta rekomendasi literatur dan riset.

Sebelum ditutup dengan sesi dokumentasi, loka karya ini menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa arsip merupakan benda dengan nilai guna dan memori kolektif yang terdiri dari arsip dinamis dan statis. Pengelolaan arsip yang baik akan memudahkan sebuah lembaga atau instansi dalam membuat keputusan atau sekadar menilik sejarah. Banyaknya ilmu yang beririsan juga menjadikan kearsipan sebagai ilmu multidisiplin yang dapat diteliti dari berbagai aspek.

Lima Pembicara Asing dan Ratusan Presenter Ikuti Seminar Internasional ISOLEC 2023 Fakultas Sastra Universitas Negeri Malang

Kota Malang – Fakultas Sastra Universitas Negeri Malang menyelenggarakan seminar internasional bertajuk International Seminar on Language, Eduation, and Culture atau ISOLEC 2023. Kegiatan ini digelar selama dua hari, yakni pada tanggal 7 dan 8 Juli 2023 yang bertempat di lantai 7 dan 9 Gedung Kuliah Bersama A20 Universitas Negeri Malang.

          ISOLEC sendiri merupakan seminar berjenjang internasional dengan topik bahasa, pendidikan, dan kebudayaan yang pada tahun ini mengusung tema “Inclusive, Sustainable, and Transformational Education in Arts and Literature” atau “Pendidikan Inklusif, Berkelanjutan, dan Transformasional dalam Seni dan Sastra”. Acara tahunan ini diadakan untuk mengumpulkan para peneliti, praktisi, guru, dan mahasiswa untuk bersama-sama mengidentifikasi berbagai aspek dalam perkembangan bahasa, pendidikan, dan budaya dalam skala lokal, nasional, bahkan internasional.

          ISOLEC 2023 menjadi spesial karena menghadirkan tujuh pembicara utama dengan lima diantaranya merupakan pembicara asing dari lima negara berbeda. Mereka adalah Dr. Tom Hoogervost dari Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeaest Asian and Caribean Studies Belanda; Assoc. Prof. Vahid Aryadoust dari Nanyang Technological University Singapura; Dr. Muhammad Alif Haji Sismat dari Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Brunei Darussalam; Dr. Sabine Dengscherz dari University of Vienna Austria; dan Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Hisham Bin Zainal Abidin dari Universiti Utara Malaysia. Sedangkan sebagai tuan rumah, Fakultas Sastra Universitas Negeri Malang diwakili oleh Prof. Dr. Primardiana Hermilia Wijayanti serta Dr. Hanik Mahliatussikah.

          Rangkaian kegiatan ISOLEC 2023 yang merupakan edisi ketujuh ini dimulai dengan upacara pembukaan yang dihelat di ruang aula utama lantai 9 GKB A20. Setelah menyanyikan lagu kebangsaan Indonesia Raya, para hadirin dihibur dengan sajian Tari Jaripah khas Banyuwangi yang dibawakan oleh mahasiswa jurusan seni dan desain. Upacara pembukaan pun dilanjutkan dengan penayangan video profil UM, sambutan dari ketua pelaksana ISOLEC 2023, Dr. Mohammad Ahsanuddin, M.Pd., dan Dekan Fakultas Sastra, Dr. Moch. Syahri, S.Sos., M.Si. ISOLEC 2023 pun secara resmi dibuka secara simbolis dengan pemukulan gong oleh Dr. Ahmad Munjin Nasih, S.Pd., M.Ag. yang merupakan Wakil Rektor III Universitas Negeri Malang. Upacara pembukaan pun ditutup dengan pemberian cenderamata dan sesi foto bersama para keynote speaker.

          Kegiatan ISOLEC 2023 kemudian dilanjutkan dengan dua sesi, yakni Plenary Session atau konferensi dengan pemateri utama di ruang aula dan Parallel Session atau sesi presentasi peserta. Adapun jumlah peserta ISOLEC 2023 adalah 185 orang yang berasal dari internal UM, kampus dan lembaga nasional, serta beberapa peserta dari negara lain. Seluruh peserta tersebut dibagi menjadi 8 ruangan berbeda dengan 5 hingga 7 orang pada tiap ruangannya untuk mempresentasikan artikel yang dilanjutkan sesi tanya jawab selama kurang lebih 15 menit.

          Hal berikutnya yang menjadikan ISOLEC 2023 makin spesial adalah artikel dan presentasinya yang dapat dilakukan dalam berbagai bahasa selain bahasa Inggris, yakni Jerman, Arab, Mandarin, dan pastinya Indonesia. Seluruh artikel yang telah terkumpul nantinya akan dipublikasikan di beberapa jurnal nasional dan internasional yang telah bereputasi atau terindeks, antara lain TEFLIN (Scopus), JBS dan IZDIHAR (Sinta 2), JPTTP, JPH, dan Al Arabi (Sinta 3), Atlantis Press, serta Proseding ber-ISSN. Berkenaan dengan topik yang dibahas, baik pembicara utama maupun peserta penyaji banyak membicarakan isu-isu kekinian, seperti literasi digital, kecerdasan buatan, strategi pembelajaran, penulisan, dan lain sebagainya.

          ISOLEC 2023 juga mendapat respon yang sangat baik dari peserta, salah satunya Disa. Dirinya menuturkan bahwa adanya ISOLEC 2023 ini membantunya dalam menyusun disertasi. “Motivasi saya ingin menguji penelitian saya yang nantinya akan saya lanjutkan jadi disertasi. Anggap saja pemanasan”, jelasnya. Perwakilan dari Universitas Negeri Jakarta tersebut juga menganggap keseluruhan acara maupun fasilitas sudah sangat baik. “Sudah bagus semua, nggk ada kekurangan apapun”, ungkapnya. Perlu diketahui, para peserta juga mendapatkan kenang-kenangan berupa totebag, buku panduan, buku catatan, pulpen, dan kartu identitas.

Ujian Tes Substansif Calon Mahasiswa PPG Prajabatan Tahun 2023 kali ini memberikan warna baru. Karena pada tahun ini Ujian dilaksanakan di lokasi ujian yang berbeda. Selain Lokasi tes di gedung Pascasarjana dan FMIPA, kali ini Fakultas Sastra dipilih sebagai tempat ujian tersebut. Laboratorium Fakultas Sastra dipilih karena Fakultas Sastra memiliki laboratorium komputer yang sangat kondusif. Dengan lingkungan yang nyaman, maka Fakultas Sastra diharapkan mampu memberikan ampak positif kepada para peserta Tes PPG Prajabatan 2023 ini.
