Malang, Indonesia – August 15, 2023 – It is a moment of pride and celebration as we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated team of students who have successfully secured funding for their research proposal under the Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM). Their project, titled “BATINKU: Innovative Custom Hand-Painted Batik Services Enhanced with AR and QR Codes for Cultural Promotion and Unique Tourism Experience,” has not only earned them financial support but also the admiration of their peers and faculty.

The PKM initiative, organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Indonesia, aims to foster creativity, innovation, and research among students. This competitive program provides a platform for young minds to explore, experiment, and develop projects that contribute to the nation’s development and cultural heritage.

The “BATINKU” project, conceived and developed by this exceptional team of students, is a testament to their dedication to preserving and promoting Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Their innovative approach combines the traditional art of hand-painted Batik with cutting-edge technology in the form of Augmented Reality (AR) and Quick Response (QR) codes.

At the core of this project lies the artistry and craftsmanship of Batik, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage. Batik, with its intricate patterns and vibrant colors, has been an integral part of Indonesia’s cultural identity for centuries. However, in the era of digitalization, the challenge is to keep this tradition alive and relevant to the younger generation and tourists alike.

The “BATINKU” project addresses this challenge by infusing Batik with modernity. Through the use of AR and QR codes, customers can explore the stories and history behind each Batik design. This innovative approach not only enhances the appreciation of the art form but also offers an immersive cultural experience to those who wear or admire Batik.

Mr. Irfan Rahman, the team’s faculty advisor, expressed his admiration for the students’ dedication and creativity, stating, “The ‘BATINKU’ project is a shining example of how technology can be harnessed to breathe new life into traditional art forms. It is a testament to the team’s vision and commitment to preserving our cultural heritage.”

The team’s journey to secure funding for their project was marked by rigorous research, countless hours of planning, and an unwavering passion for Batik. They faced stiff competition from other student groups vying for PKM funding. However, their innovative proposal, along with a compelling vision, set them apart and earned them the support they needed.

The successful funding of the “BATINKU” project is not only a significant achievement for the team but also for their faculty and the entire university. It reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing and empowering young talents to make a positive impact on society.

As the team advances to the next stage, their goal is to participate in the prestigious Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (PIMNAS) or the National Student Scientific Week. PIMNAS is a platform where the best student research projects from universities across Indonesia are showcased and evaluated.

Their aspiration is clear – to bring home the coveted gold medal in honor of their beloved faculty and university. The “BATINKU” project has the potential not only to win accolades but also to contribute significantly to the preservation and promotion of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, the entire university community stands united in support of the “BATINKU” team. The journey ahead is filled with challenges and opportunities, and we have every confidence that this talented group of students will make us proud.
