In a bid to provide guidance to student teams participating in the Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa or PKM) at the Faculty of Languages, Universitas Negeri Malang, the Student Achievement Center (Pusat Prestasi Mahasiswa or Puspresma) recently organized offline PKM mentoring sessions.

The mentoring event took place on Friday, February 17, 2023, and aimed to assist PKM teams from the Faculty of Languages who were preparing to submit their proposals at the faculty level. The session featured insights into the PKM program, presented by Andiani Salsa Sabrina, a gold medalist at the 2022 National Student Scientific Week (Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional or PIMNAS), and Salsabila Azkia Syaifudin, a participant in PIMNAS 2022. They provided valuable information about the intricacies of the PKM program for the year 2023, including guidelines that participants should adhere to, among other relevant details.

In addition to shedding light on the fundamentals of the PKM program, the presenters also highlighted the key differences between the guidelines for PKM in 2023 and those of the previous year, 2022. This information was crucial for teams preparing their project proposals, ensuring that they were aligned with the most up-to-date criteria and expectations.

Furthermore, the mentoring session was facilitated by experienced mentors selected based on their expertise in the specific field of PKM that each team was pursuing. This personalized approach allowed teams to receive guidance tailored to their project objectives and requirements.

Dr. Sarah Indriani, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, expressed her enthusiasm for the mentoring session, stating, “Our aim is to empower our students and provide them with the support and knowledge they need to excel in their PKM endeavors. We are confident that this mentoring session will enable our students to submit high-quality proposals and compete effectively.”

The Student Creativity Program (PKM) is a prestigious competition in Indonesia that encourages students to explore their creativity and innovation through research and community development projects. It encompasses various categories, including research, entrepreneurship, and community service, providing a platform for students to showcase their talents and contribute to societal advancement.

The guidance provided during the mentoring session was comprehensive and covered various aspects of the PKM program, including:

  1. Project Proposal Development: Teams received guidance on how to formulate clear and compelling project proposals, addressing the program’s specific requirements for 2023.
  2. Research Methodology: The mentors shared insights into effective research methodologies, helping teams plan and execute their projects efficiently.
  3. Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Teams learned about budget planning and resource allocation, ensuring that their proposals were financially viable.
  4. Presentation Skills: Preparing for the presentation phase of the PKM program was also a focus, with tips on effective communication and presentation techniques.
  5. Ethical Considerations: The mentors emphasized the importance of ethical considerations in research and project implementation.

The mentoring session was interactive, allowing teams to ask questions and seek clarification on any aspects of the PKM program they found challenging. This open dialogue facilitated a deeper understanding of the program’s requirements and expectations.

As the mentoring session concluded, students left with a clearer vision of their PKM projects and the confidence to present compelling proposals. With the support of experienced mentors and the knowledge gained during the session, they are well-equipped to excel in the PKM competition and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in their respective fields.

The Faculty of Languages at Universitas Negeri Malang remains committed to nurturing the creativity and academic excellence of its students. The mentoring session is just one of the many initiatives undertaken to empower students and prepare them for success in their academic and professional journeys. As the PKM teams move forward with their projects, they carry with them the guidance and expertise gained from this valuable offline mentoring experience.
