Universitas Negeri Malang is proud to announce a pioneering research initiative that aims to explore the development and implementation of virtual reality in creating decorative and futuristic abstract paintings. This research team was led by Abdul Rahman Prasetyo, S.Pd, M.Pd., with two researchers namely Dr. Ike Ratnawati, S.Pd, M.Pd and Dr. Iriaji, M. Pd, two students from our university namely Nila Rahmawati, M. Pd. and Eka Putri Surya, and an assistant namely Alby Aruna, S.Pd. This project, conducted in collaboration with Abdul Halim Husain, a distinguished foreign researcher from Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan in Malaysia, promises to redefine the boundaries of artistic expression.
Virtual reality (VR) is a cutting-edge technology that has the potential to transform the way we experience and create art. By leveraging VR, this research seeks to develop a novel approach to abstract painting, blending traditional artistic techniques with futuristic technology.
In a multifaceted research endeavor, the aims encompass: probing virtual reality’s influence on artistic creativity; constructing a VR platform for futuristic abstract art creation; involving artists, technologists, and stakeholders to ensure innovation and community representation; and nurturing collaboration between Universitas Negeri Malang and Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan to bolster academic bonds and drive artistic innovation.
The expected results of this research are transformative. The VR-based platform will not only serve as a valuable resource for artists and scholars but also as a symbol of artistic innovation and exploration. The insights gained from this study will provide a roadmap for those looking to integrate technology into artistic practice. The results will be shared through various channels, including art exhibitions, conferences, and community events.
This research initiative aligns perfectly with the global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of “Quality Education.” By exploring virtual reality in abstract painting and creating an innovative educational resource, we are contributing to the advancement of art education, ensuring that it is accessible, engaging, and reflective of our shared creative potential.
The compatibility of this program with the SDG of Quality Education is both inspiring and vital. Education is not merely about imparting knowledge; it is about fostering creativity and innovation. By exploring virtual reality in abstract painting, we are building bridges between art and technology, fostering a sense of exploration, and contributing to the quality of education through artistic innovation.
In conclusion, our collaboration with Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan and the focus on virtual reality in abstract painting represents a visionary step forward in our commitment to artistic exploration and education. Together, we are bridging art and technology, creating connections, and shaping a brighter, more creative future. We invite the campus community, stakeholders, and all interested parties to engage with and support this transformative project.
